Girls Basketball Prepares for Tournament

The Parkway North Girls Basketball team is participating in the Parkway Central Tournament this week, Jan. 24-28.  With a 7-7 start and eight games to go, the team is lead in scoring by sophomore Amber Alexander who is averaging 16.3 points per game and has scored 228 points this year.
“We’ve played a very tough schedule and so far we haven’t lost to anyone who wasn’t a good team.  That’s a positive.  We’ve beaten people who were supposed to beat,” said coach Will Young.
Last year, the team had an above .500 record, posting a respectable 16-13 record.  Two years ago was when the girls basketball team made their run at the state championship.  However, they lost in the semi-finals to Nerinx Hall.  The team went 26-3 that year.
The team looks to capitalize on their easy schedule down the stretch of the season. Six of the last eight games that the team plays are against teams with a sub .500 record, the two exceptions being 8-4 Pattonville and 8-6 Kirkwood.
“We want to compete for a conference title.  To do that we’ll have to win four or five of our last games,” said Young.  “We have a good chance [at doing well in the tournament] because we’re the second seed in the tournament.  So hopefully we’ll come through and get some hard earned wins.”
