Fall Play Rehearsals Underway; Helps Students Understand The Crucible

Rehearsals for this year’s Fall production of The Crucible by Arthur Miller began last week. This year’s play is different from past years because it is read by students during English class their junior year.
Senior Joe Elfanbaum who plays the part of Rev. John Hale said, “The play is a lot different than past years. It’s something that all junior classes study, and we can show them that and they can get a better understanding of it by seeing it acted out.”
The play takes place in Salem, MA during Puritan times and is based on events that took place during the Witchcraft Trials.
Sophomore Sarah Horne said, “I think it is dark, but it’ll be a good play.”
Even though the play takes place during the 1690’s, the play is also a commentary on events that take place in the 1950’s when it was written.
“The Crucible has a lot of deep meaning and morals in it. I think the hardest thing for me was the language and its depth,” said Elfenbaum.
Rehearsals have been underway since last week, and the performance will be held October 14-16 in the Parkway North theater.
