Cinderella Project Fashion Show Cancelled This Spring

cinderella project 2This spring, the Parkway North FCCLA will not be hosting its annual Cinderella Project Fashion Show because of a change in coordinator.  However, they are still accepting donations until March 6.

The Cinderella Project is a non-profit organization that provides prom dresses to girls who are unable to afford one on their own.  FCCLA typically hosts a fashion show in support of this group for students at North.

“The person in charge took a job somewhere else this year, and then it was too late to plan everything else,” said FCCLA sponsor Kara Sussman.

Preparation for the show started months in advance during previous years, including the first step included finding female students to model the dresses.

“We worked with them to be able to walk in heels and to get confidence in walking in front of a crowd.  Then last January, we actually went to the boutique to get the dresses, and it was such a fun trip,” said junior Morgan Taylor.

But without a coordinator this year, no models will be needed, nor a field trip to get dresses.

“I did the Cinderella Project Fashion Show last year, and it was a huge bummer to find out we were not doing it again,” said Taylor.

Although the fashion show will not be taking place this year, students will still have the opportunity to donate dresses to the cause.

“Students can bring in dresses that they want to donate and we will drop them off at MidRivers mall,” said Sussman.  “They need to be here by March 6 because that is the last collection date.”

Dresses will be donated to the Cinderella Project Boutique located at MidRivers Mall, which will be open to the public March 9 through March 24.

“Sometimes they may turn the dresses back, and if they can’t sell them in the store then they will sell them to Goodwill,” said Sussman.

Any students can donate gently used dresses that are in good condition by bringing them to Sussman who is keeping a collection.

“My aunt and I are going through the female closets of my family to find any dresses that we can give,” said Morgan Taylor.

Additionally, other FCCLA members are disappointed to hear that the fashion show will not be held this year.

“I thought the fashion show last year was fun and really inspirational, so I’m sad it’s not going on this year,” said junior Abbey Russell.  I’ll still be helping with the donated dresses though.”

For the rest of this year, FCCLA members will continue to cater to departmental meetings.  As for next year, members can only hope that another fashion show will take place under the direction of a new coordinator.
