Changes in Scheduling Make Process More Difficult

With all the snow days, scheduling this year has been more difficult than it was in the past. Not only was there a snow day when schedule requests were due, Jan. 21, there have also been multiple complaints about the online portal not working correctly. The scheduling process this year has been more difficult than in years past, but even with the problems the administration at Parkway North High School have done their best to keep the process as smooth as possible.
“I think that this year has been more confusing than it was last year and it has been really hard to change classes from the required list,” said junior Kelcee Edwards.
In order to sign up for classes, students were required to fill out a written sheet as well as an online page through Infinite Campus. Because required classes are previously filled out on Infinite Campus the student is unable to change his or her schedule and must get a parent override in order to change it on the written form. This makes the process harder for both the student and the administration because there are two different forms of one schedule.
“Filling out schedule requests this year was worse than last year because it seems like last year there weren’t as many switches or parent overrides,” said junior Jennifer Hoac.
On Jan. 25 counselors began pulling students out of math classes to meet with every single student about their schedule request. This process will ensure that every student at Parkway North is on the correct course road to graduate on time and that each student will get the classes they want to get.
Hoac didn’t like the scheduling process this year because “the AP classes and even regular classes wouldn’t show up online and that made it hard to submit my requests.”
While online scheduling has been hard because of the multiple snow days, the administration entered all student schedules into the portal for them, once again ensuring all schedules are submitted correctly.
Even though the scheduling process has been hard this year, the counselors and principles at North have done as much as they could to ensure that each student is given the classes that they need to or want to take.
