Boys Cross Country Anticipates Good Season
On Sept. 11, 2010, the Parkway North boys cross country team will compete against 89 other schools, including the other Parkway schools, at the 5th annual Forest Park Invitational.
Coach Scott Moeller hopes to do well at this invitational, especially against Pattonville where Moeller has connections. Moeller said that this meet “gives us [the team] a chance to face off with the best in the state” since it is a big meet and it resembles a state meet.
Senior Darren Brooks also hopes the team does well and said, “We have sharp performances by the underclassman such as Sam Gallup, Christian Alter, Sunny Chhabra, and Max White.”
The underclassmen aren’t the only ones who are contributing to the team. The upperclassmen took their running talents to the offseason to improve their skills, running in a 300 mile club over the summer.
“The 300 mile club is when guys run 300 miles over the course of the summer, and we used a google doc to keep the times,” Brooks said.
Runners who participated this summer included senior Darren Brooks, junior Jeff Bonin, and junior Jansen Baja.
Another way the boy cross country team is getting ready for their season, including the Invitational, is running six to seven miles a day, which includes running to Creve Coeur Lake and back, through Tempo Run, and they participate in time trials.
“The only improvements for the team this year is to do stronger at districts,” said Brooks.
Each meet, including the Forest Park Invitational is usually a 5k run, divided into freshmen, junior varsity, and varsity. A new face on the team, first year runner senior Reve Thombre runs his mile in 4:48 seconds and is expected to do well at the Invitational.
