Students Help Tornado Victims by Donating Cell Phones
Parkway North High School is helping St. Louis citizens who were affected by the tornado disasters that occurred April 22, 2011 by donating used/inactive cell phones to the Red Cross.
Principal Jenny Marquart said, “We will donate the cell phones to Red Cross, and they will either recycle the cell phones so that victims who have lost their cell phones will be able to contact others for help or give the cell phones to an organization that will donate so much money to victims in exchange for one cell phone.”
Students and faculty members can donate unwanted cell phones by dropping them in the box located outside the main office. The cell phone drive will last three weeks, May 9 – May 27.
“Red Cross started this drive and contacted Parkway School District to help by donating used cell phones to the organization,” said Marquart.
Students who do not have an old cell phone to donate can help in other ways including donating money to the Red Cross through Parkway North or by volunteering.
Freshman Savannah Cockman said,” I sadly couldn’t donate a used cell phone to the program, but I am helping tornado victims by volunteering during the weekends to go help tornado victims with rebuilding their houses and do other little things.”
Currently, only 15 cell phones have been donated to the drive; although, there is still time to donate used/inactive cell phones before the end of the academic school year.
