Musicians Who Graduated from North

Students Showcase Work at Regional Art Exhibit

  • Sophomore Alex Evets's piece is displayed in the North Regional Art Exhibit. This exhibit took place in North High's commons on March 2, 2016.
  • Elementary students from around the North area are excited that their art has been chosen to be in the North Regional Art Exhibit. Art teachers from each school selected the best pieces to be displayed at the exhibit.
  • Sophomore Nick Austin's photography titled "1.. 2.. 3.. Jump!" showcases technical and creative skill that the photography students have.
  • There were a variety of digital design pieces in the North Regional Art Exhibit. The designs were made with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator and showcase creativity and skill that the students at North have using digital media.
  • Several students' self portraits were displayed in the exhibit. Drawing teacher Clint Johnson said, "Students were given a map, oil pastels, and self portraits and were suppose make something to the best of their ability."
  • Painted landscapes were also on display at the North Regional Art Exhibit. These paintings helped the artist explore color, shape and the use of acrylic paint.
  • Sophomore Molly Hursh shows her grandma some of the art at the exhibit. These are ceramic vessels were created in the ceramic classes at North.
  • Digital Design teacher, Christa Ollinger, observes the art pieces from North High's drawing classes. "Even though you could tell it was the same assignment, they all had their own appeal," said Ollinger.

Students Celebrate Black History Month

  • Showing off their dance moves, sophomore Israel Lewis and junior Makyia Flowers, perform a dance inspired by African culture.
  • Performing on stage, the Parkway North step team shows the audience that stepping is a tradition that involves movements from African dances.
  • Moving their feet, these partners perform a dance inspired by African culture at the Black History Month celebration in the North theater.
  • A former Parkway North Graduate of 1987, Dana Parks, tells her story of attending Parkway North. "We were the deseg kids. We were scared to ride the buses," she said. However, after missing school to attend her friend's funeral, her "fellow classmates had signs and welcomed us back with open arms, and that's when I felt apart of this institution right here," Parks said.
  • Reenacting the Little Rock Nine, these students join hands to share the Little Rock Nines' story. The Little Rock Nine story is about the first students to enroll in a previously-segregated school in Arkansas.
  • Expressing a slam poem, sophomore Thomas Coleman Jr. and junior Anthony Bobbit, perform together for the Black History Month show on Feb. 4. The spoken word has always been an important part of African-American history and has served as a way to pass on narratives and history.
  • Reciting the poem "Ain't I A Woman" by Sojourner Truth, junior Katlyn Thomas is the first one to speak out of the four, "Nobody ever helps me into carriages, or over mud-puddles, or gives me any best place! And ain't I a woman?" Thomas recites.
  • Starting the Black History Month performance, these dancers show the audience an African dance.

What Do You Know About Parkway North?

Catering Club 2015

  • Senior Erika O'Donohue measures out Glucose to make fondant. The group made the fondant, hard candy, rice crispie mixture, and other elements used for the scene out of scratch.
  • O'Donohue mixes a rice cereal and marshmallow mixture after it comes out of the microwave. It will later be used as the base of the snow for the winter scene.
  • Junior Morgan Jansson waits for the snowman to dry after she added arms to it. Behind her, junior Paige Gratzer adds the rice crispie mixture onto the snow mound, which will later be covered in white fondant. " We are making fondant to cover our hill and igloo for our scene," said Gratzer.
  • Jansson measures gelatin powder, one of the ingredients in fondant. She will combine the gelatin with water, glucose and powdered sugar to make a clay-like consistency.
  • Gratzer talks to some of her fellow club members about setting the scene. "We made penguins, snowmen and polar bears for the winter scene...We are going to make Christmas trees with ice cream cones and icing."
  • The group made a snowman, polar bear, and a sled to decorate their scene. They are hardening before they are placed on the scene permanently.
