Fall Out Boy and Paramore Rock St. Louis on Monumentour

On July 6, rock bands Paramore and Fall Out Boy performed in St Louis on their 12th stop as part of their joint Monumentour tour.

“It was amazing. I liked that instead of just performing their songs, they put a lot of energy into it. By the end of it, you could tell that they gave their all,” said junior Katie Landsbaum.

The concert was held outdoors at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre. Despite the heat and humidity of a typical St. Louis summer, fans of all ages gathered to hear Paramore and Fall Out Boy perform.

“The heat made it slightly harder to enjoy the concert but through the heat, the bands’ performances were amazing” said sophomore Mary Carter.

The rock band New Politics was the opening band for the concert. Their performance was very energetic and set the stage for Paramore to perform.

“[Paramore] was fantastic. I really liked how in the middle of one of their songs [lead singer] Hayley [Williams] stopped, and she had someone from the audience come up and sing with her. It was just a really nice moment,” said Landsbaum.

Paramore started with one of their newer songs, “Still Into You,” and finished with a rendition of “Proof”. Fans stood and sang along to many of their favorite songs, and one fan even joined the band on stage for a rendition of “Misery Business.”

“Everyone was singing and dancing along,” said sophomore Mary Carter.

Rounding out the night was the performance by Fall Out Boy. They opened to a dark sky and cheering crowd as they performed “The Pheonix” complete with fireworks. The band played both older and newer songs such as “Sugar We’re Goin’ Down” and “My Songs Know What you Did in the Dark”. The band ended with a surprise encore performance of “Thanks for the Memories.”

“[The encore] was extremely unexpected and everyone knew the song,” said Carter.

The tour stopped in a total of 36 cities, but Paramore did not play at two of those concerts. The tour started on June 19 in Hartford and will end on Sept 12 in Puyallup, Washington.
